the Way of the Wife
the sermon on the tea-towel
——
When I read these instructions on how to be a good wife, I’m bewildered. Somewhere, sometime, a woman wrote these words, that’s not in doubt. But did she write it for the money, knowing there was profit to be made from self-improvement books even a century ago, or was she slyly and cynically undermining her lord and master?

I notice this piece was crucified without mercy, with suitable indifferent audience. My take on these kinds of thing is that it is satire… I could be wrong.

Which piece? The poem is of course satire. The tea towel most likely reproduces instructions that were for real. Aaaaarrrrgh, As for the audience indifference: it’s rare than anyone comments on my poems and I am delighted that you have done so.
