vii.

Two girls nearby are trying
to get pregnant.
All weekend they try like mad
and also Tuesdays.
One has the mouth of a madonna.
The other one might be sorry.

Everything rhymes

Shapes on surface of sand

If you were me
and I were you
I wouldn’t be
in love with you.

Honey flows into
the cup of the day
and everything rhymes
with you.

Youth is juice
youth is couth
and jumble
and youth
is jig-a-jig-jig.

If I had a tree

If I had a tree
I would carve it.

If I had a pie
I would halve it.

If I had your heart
I would marvel
all over again.

The symmetry of love

Love is God
antique and electronic,
lighting up the logic
of the past.

The symmetry of love
let loose
holds the balance,
keeps the peace.

Lovers apart

Lovers apart
spin cobwebs
round the heart.

In the office
did you think of me?
Thought not.

Cat’s eyes

You have cat’s eyes
and they glow in the daytime
flashing go and go and go.

Come to me and I’ll melt
the glass, turn off the light
and lie on pussy willow.

I might write
a poetry bite
upon your thigh.

You are my green dream
in a wistful city.

Enter Sir Lancelot

Although it’s true
that golden gleams
surround him

and true that every tree
blossoms with a crash
as he goes by

it is a silent seeking
in his eyes that draws her.
She unzips.

A bird coughs.
It rains from a sky of blue.
And a queen wants a love that is pure.
